This tour begins in Apia and heads out to the urban areas of the township past where the Samoa sports complex and the University of the South Pacific are located. We then head south to our first stop at the Savaia Clam Reserve. The drive takes us on the Aleisa Road past villages with colourful gardens, breadfruit trees, banana trees through cocoa and taro plantations, surrounded by lush green forests and majestic mountains. The Giant Clam reserve is an outstanding experience, not only for the impressive size of the clams but also their utter beauty, colors and patterns. You may also see some interesting fish and soft coral and if you are lucky enough a turtle may make an appearance. The clams can be viewed in the marine reserve located inside the roped and buoyed area about 75metres from the beach. The water in the protected bay is warm and clear most days and there are steps down to the water for easy access. For those who do not wish to swim you can stroll around the village taking photos or swim at the beach and there is also a shallow cemented pool right by the shore for the kids to play in. Lunch will also be served.
Heading back to your last visit to Vailima Botanical Gardens to finish up your day. The Botanical Garden protects a vriety of species, – native introduced and neutralized – representative of the flora of the archipelago and the Pacific basin. It is an excellent place for a day visit to relax and enjoy nature and its tranquilities.
